Risk Assessment

In this post, I'll be analysing the risks of making this music video, grouped by location.

First location: tunnel

The tunnel itself is an under-road crosswalk, so the risks are quite minimal. The shots don't include anything risky, besides blowing out a candle, which shouldn't be too dangerous.

Second location: parking lot

In this location, there are slightly more risks. First, there's the possibility of slipping on the stairs while filming, which could result in some significant injuries. I'll make sure to be aware of my surroundings when filming, and to focus on safety rather than getting the perfect shot. Then there's the risk of getting cut on the shards of glass. To combat this, I'll be moving the glass around using a broom and dustpan, and if I really need to move them with my hands, I'll be using some very thick gloves that I mentioned in the 'Props' post. There are also a few shots of the character falling. I'll mostly try to film them in such a way that he doesn't actually need to fall all the way in order to get the shot, but in the cases where this is not possible, I'll bring an inflatable mattress along so that he can have something soft to fall onto. Lastly, there is a small risk surrounding the small pieces of paper that we need to burn for one shot; it's a close up, so the location isn't really relevant; because of this, I'll be choosing a place outdoors, with lots of concrete and nothing flammable around it.

Other risks include damaging the gear, like dropping the camera or the tripod falling over. I'll be careful to always wear the strap of the camera, and not to trip on the tripod. The weather is also an important factor for some of the outdoors shots, but I've checked the forecast and it's generally sunny over the next ten days, which covers the filming period. Another small risk is losing the printed out script, but I've got a backup of it on my phone just in case.
