Film Opening - Final Cut
Making this film opening has certainly been a journey. From the very first idea I had, of a film just portraying a character's mental struggles and focusing on really getting that hopeless idea across to the viewer, to the later iteration of a similar idea, in which everything was hopeful and well, to the last and final version, which is a combination of the two, an honest and truthful portrayal of a character and the way they grow and evolve. I'm really glad I decided on

Feedback
I showed the semifinal version of the film opening to a few people and asked them to give me some impartial feedback about anything they found confusing or thought could be changed for the better, be it related to the editing, the colours, the sound, or anything. One person pointed out that the motorcycle isn't on the same side of the road in all of the shots. Indeed, there is one shot in which it's driving on the right side of the road, while in all of the others it's dri

Editing
The editing process was quite complex, and sometimes complicated and tedious, but in the end I think I did a pretty good job. Colours The first step in achieving the contrast between the two timelines, the flashforward and the present time, was editing the colours, lighting, and saturation. The cemetery scene needed to feel and look bright, hopeful, warm and alive, so I slightly increased the saturation and highlights. For the other scenes, I basically did the complete oppo

Sound
For the sound, it's mostly going to be diegetic sounds, because this is a slice of life story, and I think that having a lot of soundtrack and sound effects could break some of the immersion. I also think it might distract the viewer from the visual aspects, and from analysing the character. I do want to include bits of one song though, and following my initial idea, that song is going to be "Best Day Of My Life" by Tom Odell. There are some lyrics I'd really like to inclu

Font tests for credits
I'm going to split the credits into two categories, one of them is the title of the film, and the other are the general credits. For the title, I wanted it to clearly convey the atmosphere and essence of the film, which is the struggles of a teenager and the challenges they face. The only thing I knew for sure is that I didn't want the font to be boring or generic, I wanted it to stand out, while still remaining easily readable. I searched for some fonts on google fonts, and

Film Opening - Raw Edit
I made a first edit of the film opening, in which I basically just selected the footage I wanted to include and the takes I liked, cut them to the right length and placed them in the correct order, to create a succession of events that have a nice flow and fit the narrative. I didn't entirely follow the script, but instead got creative with which shots to include and their order. I'm really glad I did multiple takes and angles for each shot, because it gave me a lot more opti
