Along with the vinyl cover, I will also be making a mini music video as part of my preliminary work, in order to prepare and experiment for the final music video task.

I started by choosing a song, namely Ultraviolet by Spiritbox. Inspired by the album cover and song name, I decided I'd like to incorporate a lot of purple lighting in my 30 second music video, so I took a few concept photos using this lighting, which I shot on a Canon 2000D.

These photos are entirely unedited, I only wanted to try out the lighting and also try shooting through some mesh in order to get a more hazy and unclear image. I also shot these by myself, so it was a little difficult getting my hand in focus while only holding the camera with one hand. For the actual music video, a friend agreed to help me by modelling in it, so I'll be able to film and focus the camera properly:)

I also came up with a list of shots I want to include, which I then organised in a script:

As for the editing, I plan to colour grade the shots in order to bring out the purple even more, if it'll be needed, and maybe add some grain to give the shots a little more texture. I'd also like to experiment with some transitions and shots briefly overlaying on top of each other, to really create a bit of a confusing and abstract feeling.

I plan to also use some of the same techniques I used in the test shoot, such as filming through mesh or making use of in shot lighting, instead of relying solely on the editing for adding colour and texture. I'll also be using more or less the same settings on my camera (manual focus, ISO1600); unfortunately my camera doesn't let me change the aperture, so I'll have to stick with it being automatic.

Filming with an actual camera will definitely be a challenge, since I'm used to filming on my phone, but I'm very much looking forward to it anyway, because I think the result will be all the better for it. It'll also be fun to film something so abstract, with so many closeups and dramatically lit shots, since my previous filming experience mostly consists of long shots in natural lighting. And most importantly, this new visual style that I'm experimenting with will come in very handy when working on the final music video task, which will have a similar atmosphere and use some of the techniques I'll be trying out in the preliminary project.
